Acclaimed DC Restaurant Bringing Flavorful, Spicy Creations To Downtown

Working for years in the Washington, DC retail real estate business, I came to appreciate how respected the restaurant scene was. DC was always on the map for famous chef-owners operating in markets like New York, San Francisco, L.A. and Chicago.

I also spoke to many a DC chef who’d heard of Charleston’s vibrant scene and wanted to figure if there was an opportunity here for them.

A DC restaurant owned by a South Carolina native will be opening downtown soon in the Cannonborough neighborhood. Makan serves “flavorful Malaysian cuisine cooked with care”, and hopes to open by the summer.

Costa Opens In The Jasper Downtown

We have another restaurant with beautiful water views to dine at, this time looking out at The Ashley River. Floor-to-ceiling windows allow diners to enjoy what sounds like inspired coastal Italian cuisine.

Costa comes from the same owners as Zero George, Cannon Green and Wild Common, and opened on November 16.

SC To Get Its 1st HomeSense

The TJX Companies, Inc. is a holding company for a number of retail concepts. They’re not flashy. But for the most part, consumers love the offerings.

Who among us hasn’t shopped at TJ Maxx, Marshalls, and Homegoods?

TJX started committing to home furnishings about a decade ago, and tested out various sizes of its Homegoods store in its home market of New England, then the Mid-Atlantic.

About 5 years ago they incubated a new concept called HomeSense, and recently announced they’d be opening on Hilton Head Island in 2024.

Why am I reporting on activity in Hilton Head, when we’re focused on Charleston? Because they’ll make their way here, sooner rather than later. The Charleston market is too prosperous for them to ignore. 😁

Half-Moon Outfitters Launches 4th Lowcountry Location

Half-Moon Outfitters has been a mainstay in the Charleston area for a while. And for good reason. They’re a classic example of a retailer that serves its clientele (very) well.

They recently announced they’ll open their 4th Charleston-area location location in Summerville.
